BOYLE ARTS FESTIVAL 2010 - THE BRASS SHILLELAGH AWARD

Boyle Arts Festival is now accepting original unpublished one-act plays with a maximum length of 15 minutes from amateur playwrights/directors and actors for its inaugural Brass Shillelagh Drama Award. Five winning finalists will be selected to perform on the night of Saturday 31st July during the Boyle Arts Festival. You will be required to stage the play with your own cast and need to have your own props. On the final night of Boyle Arts Festival an overall winner will be selected based on the performance and the transformation from script to stage. By using your own cast, you can realize and perfect your vision. We will provide the audience, the Judges, advertising, prize money of €300 to the winner, €50 to the four runners up and the prestigious Brass Shillelagh itself. Closing Date for entry is 15th June. Boyle GAA Club

The big occasion of the year, for Boyle GAA Club, has finally arrived with the official opening of our new Clubrooms on Saturday next. This will be the Club's Lá na gClub for 2010 and admission is free. The day will commence at 2pm with exhibition games by our Under 12 girls and boys, followed by the under 8s at 2.30. There will be a senior ladies game between Boyle and Tulsk at 3pm. The official opening will take place at 4pm and it will be jointly performed by John Joe Nerney and Gerry O'Malley, followed by the blessing by Canon Gerry Hanley. The programme will conclude with a senior intercounty football challenge at 5pm between Fergal O'Donnell's Roscommon and Clare. There will be an Under 10 boys and girls football exhibition at half time in the big game. Boyle Marching Band will provide entertainment during the afternoon. The day/night will conclude with a celebration social in the Royal Hotel at 10pm-again with free admission. Music will be provided by Michael McDonald and medals will be presented to the Boyle team which won the Division 4 League last season. The Club Person of the Year award will also be made as will the Hall of Fame award and the Player of the Year awards for Under 21, Junior and Intermediate.
